Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has approved the construction of a new link road that will connect Greater Noida and Faridabad via the Manjhawali bridge on the Yamuna River. The project aims to reduce travel time between the two cities to just 30 minutes. This will be a significant development from the current two-hour journey through congested areas of Delhi and Noida, which necessitated as 50 per cent of the work for the 23-km stretch of the Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway in Noida is yet to be done, reported Economic Times. The new four-lane corridor, branching off from the Yamuna Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, is expected to be a crucial link for travellers, especially from Haryana heading to the upcoming Noida airport. It will also help ease traffic on the Kalindi Kunj flyover and the Noida Expressway – both key connectors between Haryana, Delhi, and Noida. UP chief secretary SP Goyal sanctioned Rs 65.5 crore for the Faridabad-Greater Noida Integrated Circuit during a high-level meeting on Monday to review the progress of key infrastructure projects under the public works department (PWD), reported ET. The project will involve constructing a 1.7-km road from Atta Gujran to the Haryana border, where the road will connect with an existing road, the Manjhawali bridge and Jasana in Faridabad and widening a 3km stretch. The construction of the 630-meter-long Manjhawali bridge, which is central to the plan, took four years ti commence and was only opened in December 2022 after missing six deadlines The bridge, despite being thrown open to the public, remains underutilised because the connecting road on the UP side was stalled by funding and land acquisition issues, while the Haryana side's approach road is already complete. Officials said that approximately seven hectares of land must be acquired and so far, land registry agreements have been signed from half of the 110 affected farmers. The district administration has already received Rs 25 crore to compensate the affected farmers, and additional funds have been proposed to fast-track the acquisition process. The construction of the long-awaited Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Expressway remains incomplete.
